If you're looking for a new TV then stop right here March 11, 2010 N. Brown (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this television around 9 months now, buying it a couple of weeks after it was first released in the UK (Spring 2009), so I've the benefit of a reasonable length of time to experience it. This was my first Panasonic TV and first plasma. I choose this above all the LCD TV's available because after months of reading every review the general consensus was that this WAS the best picture available for the money.
To appreciate this TV you must have a whole range of HD sources. Luckily, for those not yet signed up with Sky HD, this comes with Freesat built in. So if you've got a dish already it's not too much of a problem to get access to the BBC HD channel and ITV HD transmission (usually the football). In fact, with an extra cable you can have both Sky and Freesat hooked up, which gives you access to all the UK's current HD transmissions. In my family we now check out what's on the HD channels first before choosing what to watch and it is really worth going back to all those older movies to fully appreciate them in HD.
I can happily report that Sky HD, Blu-rays, PS3 and Panasonic HD camcorder playbacks all look stunning. The standard definition picture though is nothing to shout about. The TV comes with three HDMI ports but frankly this isn't enough for these days and I do have to use a HDMI switch to have everything connected. Another two HDMI ports would be good. The picture for use with the Wii is actually very good and better than I was expecting given that the Wii is not HD.
To be honest, with either an HD transmission or Blu-ray this is a better viewing experience than going to the cinema. You do need to have a reasonable home cinema system, but picture quality knocks the socks off your local multiplex.
As far as the sound goes, I would strongly recommend getting a home cinema system. I bought one with the TV and have not regretted it. The picture quality of Blu-ray may be the main selling point but the sound quality makes the viewing experience a real joy. No flat screen TV is going to have great built in speakers due to space so a good sound system is a must in my view. Panasonic do a pretty reasonable range of home cinema systems (at reasonable prices too) which integrate perfectly with this TV via their VIERA link system. The only down side to all this kit is again the shortage of HDMI ports to have the whole shooting match set up.
An added bonus is the SD card reader which is built in to the side. We use this to view the holiday snaps and the home movies. The picture quality here is fabulous. Ours is only a 6 mega pixel camera which is a few years old but the pictures look absolutely stunning! Much better than when viewed on the PC.
One thing I have noticed is that it is a bit power hungry and I have noticed a rise in electricity consumption since it was installed. This is not a big increase but something to bear in mind.
Overall I have no hesitation in recommending this TV. Hopefully Panasonic will increase the number of HDMI ports in future models but other that I have no complaints.
Astounding image quality on a brilliant all round tv February 15, 2010 A. Blackhall (UK) The image quality on the TV set definitely made it worth the premium in price over other 42" sets out there. The neoPDP panel makes it a lot brighter than other plasmas, making it on par with some of it's lcd counterparts whilst still having superior viewing angles and contrast ratio. The presets of cinema and game are really useful, although the dynamic contrast is too garish to actually be used. I have it hooked up to my home cinema, pc and xbox 360 and everything looks crisp and the colours are vibrant with no motion blur with games like crysis and fifa testing the 600Hz out. The speakers on the tv are much better than most tv sets and whilst I use a 5.1 setup now, for the first few weeks had the built in's working and they are excellent for casual viewing.
Only criticism I have of the TV is only 3 HDMI inputs but these are more than enough for most users, and it's only with my planned aquisition of a PS3 that it'll be a problem.

Outstanding picture quality in HD/ Bluray, although sound could be better if you use a home cinema system this is no longer an issue. Looked at lcd and led finally settling on this one and, so far, no regrets.
Panasonic Perfect February 11, 2010 Maxwell Shee A superb television, fantastic colours & deep blacks.Freeview is far better picture than any other TV I've seen, Freesat untested but included. Brilliant for sport and movies.Fabulous blu-ray images.
Logical & easy set up, remote a joy to use. My second Panasonic plasma and incredible value from the Amazon store.
Cannot fault it at this price or anything twice the Amazon price. 10 out of 10.
Panasonic wins again February 1, 2010 H. S. Bhabra (Coventry) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once again, I am not disappointed by a Panasonic product. Only comment to make is that the "fan"(?) is a bit loud when you have sound on low volume. Otherwise, no problems.
