5 out of 5 stars Sumptuous sound, perfect picture   April 27, 2009

I went to buy an LCD TV for about £600 and ended up spending £1200 on a plasma panel. And it is worth every penny! The sound is so good that I have abandoned a separate surround sound system and even considered junking my hi-fi system to play my Cds through the TV! Take care with setting up the woofers if your TV is in a corner (use the >30cm option, then cut the base a little). The picture is superb from all sources and in all lighting conditions - the IMAX sequences on the Dark Knight blue-ray are breathtaking.

So what is not perfect in this 5-star product? Well the programme guide is poor, eg you cannot use it and watch your current programme in a small window. A software upgrade is badly needed here. The SD card facility is great making a mockery of digital photo frames - but again the software for this is poor (difficult to scroll through photos manually etc). The remote control seems to have a narrow acceptance angle.

But ignore the gripes - this is a superb product!

5 out of 5 stars THE ONE TO BUY   March 20, 2009

After spending months researching flat screen tv's starting with the great debate - Plasma or LCD - I opted for plasma. I then had to decide which manufacturer? I chose panasonic. I eventually opted for the 800B for a number of reasons. The panel itself I believe is the best of the bunch. It is completely flat unlike the rest of the range (no plastic frame). The uprated sound system on this Tv means it is good enough without having to splash out on a cinema sound system. This is a great TV! Colours realistic yet vibrant. Delivered to my door safely and within minutes of the specified time.
I plugged it in stuck in the aerial and auto-set up took over. Up and running in no time. I dont have satellite yet, but, even on standard defenition the picture is good. I have invested in a blu-ray player. Plug one of those in, and this TV comes into its own - FANATASTIC!

Panasonic TH-42PZ800B - 42" Widescreen Viera 1080P Full HD Plasma TV - With Freeview There is nothing wrong with this TV - it is very good. The delivery service is another matter entirely. Amazon elected to deliver the TV using a company called Night Freight. This so called 'White Glove delivery service' was anything but. The driver of an extremely large truck ignored my several suggestions to drive into my farmyard where he could easily turn round when leaving. Instead he insisted on backing in. As a result, he ended up to his hub caps in my lawn and turned it into a passable likeness to a World War I battle ground. The ensuing efforts to get them out with the help of a neighbour's tractor then made a complete mess of the driveway. Then, to add insult to injury, they were reluctant to help unpack the TV and flatly refused to remove the packaging (all offered by Amazon as part of their service). Three weeks after, the solicitors have just agreed to pay for the repairs but I have yet to receive any kind of written apology from either Amazon or Night Freight for the considerable inconvenience I have suffered from buying this TV from Amazon.

So, think before you rely on such promises!

5 out of 5 stars Panasonic PZ800 Plasma 42" Television   January 4, 2009

This is a decision that took ages to make as there were several contenders both LCD and Plasma. I have always been an LCD fan until now. This Panasonic set is stunning. It has replaced a 36" CRT set the last ever made by Panasonic and is widely regarded by those in the know as the best ever CRT set It was however too bulky and very heavy at around 15 stones. I was worried that the standard definition picture of the plasma would look poor compared with the old set. The really good news is that it is excellent using both the internal digital tuner or sky box. HD is to die for.
Moreover this set comes with a much enhanced sound system and is really rich sounding compared to all other flat screen tvs. Though I use a samsung sound bar for films I can quite happily listen to the TV without this.
I bought this for £1200 inc 5 year guarantee which is in my opinion a steal. I had to travel to Crampton & Moore in Sheffield to get this guarantee but it was worth the journey.
I recommend this set without reservation.
